Offers for sale of wheat at auctions held last week to complete the state reserve did not meet the expectations, as the state failed to contract up to 35,000 tons. <\/p>\n

Cereal producers put on sale 27,000 tons of food wheat while some districts did not present offers. <\/p>\n

Farmers did not hurry up to sell their grains though independent experts said that the prices are "relatively good". The districts of Straseni, Calarasi, Drochia and Taraclia did not have offers, BASA learned from Ion Turcanu, director of the Agency for Material Reserves, Public Acquisitions and Humanitarian Aid.

\nHe said that many farmers are waiting for higher prices of grains on regional market and they chose to keep their wheat. "We do not rule out that repeat auctions will take place in Chisinau soon," Turcanu stated. <\/p>\n

The Agency for Material Reserves, Public Acquisitions and Humanitarian Aid is fulfilling the formalities needed to contract 27,000 tons of wheat. The wheat will be stored at state elevators by next weekend. <\/p>\n

The state has paid 1.6 lei per kilogram of wheat containing 18-21 percent of gluten, 1.9 lei for wheat containing 22-25 percent of gluten and 2.2 lei a kilogram of wheat containing more than 25 percent of gluten. The prices were established on basis of the conjuncture of regional market and production cost.
