The number of users of mobile telephone services in the first half of the year increased by 104,700 people compared with the end of last year and totaled 1.194 million people, a report by the National Regulatory Agency in Telecommunications and Informatics shows. <\/p>\n

In the mentioned period, the mobile telephony company Voxtel connected 68,500 new subscribers to its network, while the mobile telephone operator Moldcell – 36,200 new subscribers, or by over 19,000 and, respectively, over 12,000 fewer subscribers than in the first semester 2005. Accordign to the number of subscribers, the market share of Voxtel was 60.92%, of Moldcell – 39.08%.

\nThe mobile operators’ incomes in the first half 2006 rose by 40.4% compared with the corresponding period last year and added up to 826.8 million lei. <\/p>\n

The report shows that in the mentioned period Voxtel JSC invested 97 million lei in the development of the mobile telephony networks, and Moldcell JSC – 56.4 million lei. <\/p>\n

Voxtel started operating under GSM standard in October 1998, while Moldcell – in April 2000.
