The government anticipates a slower economic growth for Moldova, down to four percent in 2007, after the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) has grown by more than seven percent in the past years. <\/p>\n

According to the draft state budget law for 2007, the GDP for 2007 is expected to be 46.6 billion lei (3.5 billion dollars), by 4 percent more than expected this year. <\/p>\n

The executive has recently approved the Medium-Term Expense Framework, which indicates a 6-percent rise of Moldovan economy for 2007-2009, from 49.3 billion lei in 2007 up to 63.3 billion lei in 2009. <\/p>\n

The government forecasted a 6.5-percent economic growth earlier this year. However, the Ministry of Economy and Trade has updated the forecasts for GDP rise, but did not unveil them. <\/p>\n

According to official sources, the executive has reduced the economic growth forecast after Moldova faced external shocks, including rise of the natural gas tariff, suspension of wine exports to the Russian Federation and dearer fuels. <\/p>\n

The International Monetary Fund anticipates a 5-percent rise of Moldova’s GDP, while the CIS Committee for Statistics forecasts a 6-percent growth. <\/p>\n

The Moldovan economy has registered high rise paces in the past five years. The GDP rose by 7.1 percent last year and by 43 percent in 2000-2005.
