National Bank of Moldova Governor Leonid Talmaci says that given the 2003 euro’s appreciation towards the dollar, the demand for the European currency is likely to grow in Moldova. At the same time, the governor says that the most of contracts are concluded in dollars, since only 9.8 percent of exports and 17.7 percent of imports were carried out in euros over the nine months of 2003. <\/p>\n

Speaking about the 10th anniversary since the Moldovan leu has been put into circulation, in November 1993, Talmaci deplores the fact that the stability of the national currency and macroeconomic indicators failed to be backed by the structural reforms, which would have led to an economic growth.
