The Moldcell shareholders intend to invest additional 55 million dollars in the upcoming 5 years, Mr. Erdal Durukan, president of TeliaSonera Eurasia operation and chief executive officer (CEO) of Fintur Holdings B.V., told a meeting with the president of Moldova, Mr. Vladimir Voronin, on Friday. <\/p>\n

TeliaSonera and Fintur Holdings BV have invested over 74 million dollars in Moldova until now. TeliaSonera is one of the biggest telecom operator in Europe and Eurasia, having around 90 million subscribers. <\/p>\n

According to the presidential press service, Durukan mentioned about the willingness of his company to make additional investment in the 3 G (the Third Generation) GSM technologies. "Moldcell will continue raising the telecommunication sector of Moldova up to the European standards," reads a press release delivered by Moldcell to BASA. <\/p>\n

Durukan assured the chief of state that the activity of TeliaSonera in Moldova is not reduced to implementation of GSM technologies, but also contributes directly to promotion of a favourable image of Moldova in political and business environments from Europe. <\/p>\n

Voronin was satisfied with the increasing interest of Turkish companies for cooperation in Moldova. <\/p>\n

Fintur Holding BV owns 99 percent of Moldcell shares. Fintur Holdings BV is a Netherlands based company. The major share of Fintur Holdings BV is held by one of the most advanced mobile telecommunication groups in the world – TeliaSonera (58.55 PERCENT), created as a result of the merger of 2 companies: Telia (Sweden) and Sonera (Finland). The other (41.45 percent) are owned by Turkcell. Fintur Holdings BV is becoming a strong telecom holding in the region with investments in GSM mobile, Internet and other converging technologies.
