The IMF Mission completed another visit to Moldova on July 21. The Mission’s head Thomas Richardson told a news conference on Friday that as a rule the Mission makes surveys two times a year but as a result of the ban on wine exports to Russia and the rise in gas tariffs, Moldova’s economy suffered a shock and it came to examine the situation in place so as to find ways out of the crisis. <\/p>\n

Richardson said the Fund is examining the possibility of increasing the financial support to Moldova for softening the consequences of the economic shock. Richardson said that in autumn, the IMF Executive Board will discuss the disbursement of the next installment under the Poverty Reduction and Growth Facility (PRGF). It is expected that Moldova will receive this installment in December. <\/p>\n

The next IMF Mission will come to Moldova in late October. On May 5, the Executive Board of the International Monetary Fund approved the new three-year arrangement under the PRGF for about US$118.2 million for Moldova. PRGF loans carry an annual interest rate of 0.5 percent, and are repayable over 10 years with a 5.5-year grace period on principal payments. <\/p>\n

Since 1993 until present, Moldova benefited from six arrangements with the IMF under which it received about US$408 million.
