"If the social and economic situation in Moldova worsens from reasons beyond the Moldovan authorities’ control, the World Bank (WB) is willing to modify the general country programme so that to satisfy Moldova’s needs". WB country director for Moldova Paul Bermingham has made statements to this effect within a meeting with Prime Minister Vasile Tarlev, according to the government’s press service. <\/p>\n

Referring to eventual impediments that could "complicate the social and economic situation in Moldova", Bermingham named the increase in gas price or the continuation of Russian Federation’s embargo on the Moldovan production. <\/p>\n

Bermingham highly appreciated the World Bank-Moldovan government negotiations on the general country programme. <\/p>\n

The official said that due to Moldova’s achievements in the field of economic development, there were operated positive amendments to the programme, and this will allow increasing the financial resources allotted to Moldova. The World Bank and foreign donors already hold negotiations on offering grants to support economic reforms in Moldova. <\/p>\n

Tarlev thanked the World Bank for support and collaboration in the process of Assessment of Country Policies and Institutions. The premier hailed WB experts’ flexible and constructive stance in the process. <\/p>\n
