\"\"The Transnistrian region’s biggest industrial enterprise, the Moldovan Metallurgical Plant (MMZ) in the town of Rybnitsa, has resumed exports after a 2.5-month-long break. This has become possible after the Plant had got registered, albeit temporarily, with the State Registration Chamber of Moldova. <\/p>\n

Such temporary registration permits to run legal exports and imports in the free trade regime, but only with CIS member states. To trade with other states, a company is supposed to receive a permanent registration with Chisinau. This gives possibility to trade with the entire world on the basis of documents on the Moldovan origin of goods, to enjoy preferences provided for Moldova by the European Union, and to work in the free trade regime with those European countries which have signed corresponding agreements with the Republic of Moldova. <\/p>\n

MMZ suspended exports on March 3 when Ukraine and Moldova introduced a new customs regime for Transnistrian companies. Its Director Andrei Yudin stated then the plant "shall not get registered with Moldova, for this question has political roots, not economic ones". He also stated it was "just impossible to have the Customs representative of a foreign state, Moldova, to be present at the enterprise". <\/p>\n

After two months of the pause in exports, MMZ had overstocked its depots with some 85 thousand tons of rolled metal items and some 15 thousand tons of pre-fabricates, which meant that US$40 million worth of frozen capitals were lying in the plant yard at the beginning of May. <\/p>\n

Exporting over 90% of its produce, the Plant accounts for some 30% of the Transnistrian region’s budget.
