Experts of the World Bank carried out a study on the impact of energy price changes in Moldova that was submitted to the Moldovan Government on April 18. <\/p>\n

Dejan Ostojic, WB Senior Energy Specialist, told a news conference on Thursday that “Moldova has in its hands the task of reducing its energy vulnerability by improving energy efficiency, reducing energy waste, and developing its own energy potentials.” He said the Government should create a favorable investment climate for potential investors in the energy sector, what could ameliorate Moldova’s energy efficiency. <\/p>\n

Edward Brown, the World Bank Country Manager for Moldova, said at the conference that the World Bank and other donors, such as the UK, Sweden, the Netherlands Governments, as well as the European Union, intend to offer support to Moldova in this area, after Chisinau signs the financial cooperation program with the International Monetary Fund. <\/p>\n

In January 2006, the price of natural gas supplied to Moldova increased from $80 to $110 per thousand cubic meters, under the agreement with Gazprom (Russia) which covered only the first half of 2006.
