The budget could fail revenues in the amount of 600 million lei (46 million dollars) if Russia does not withdraw the interdictions on Moldovan wine production the next 2-3 months, according to Finance Minister Mihai Pop. <\/p>\n

"Taxes from wine production count for 600 million lei out of the consolidated budget of 15 billion lei. However, the impact could be more serious because the wine making sector is in deep connection with other branches such as glass plants, cardboard enterprises, electricity, water consumption, etc.," Minister Pop told journalists. <\/p>\n

The Russian consumer protection service Rospotrebnadzor prohibited on March 27 the importation and trading of wines, cognacs and sparkling wines made in Moldova and Georgia, saying that they contain pesticides and metals that endanger the health of Russian consumers. The Chisinau and Tbilisi authorities have consistently denied this information, saying that tests undertaken at the central laboratory of Rostest did not identify dangerous substances in the Moldovan alcohol production. <\/p>\n

According to the Agri-Industrial Agency MoldovaVin, wineries use 25 percent of their capacities needed to cover the exports to other markets than Russia. <\/p>\n

"I hope that our wine makers did not block themselves on the Russian market and they will diversify their sale markets, so that the situation will balance and will reduce the negative impact to minimum," Pop added. <\/p>\n

Russia absorbs 85 percent of Moldovan wine exports, while the annual deliveries are evaluated at over 250 million dollars.
