The Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) has approved four new projects. These are aimed to support the efforts of the Moldovan Government in EG-PRS implementation and provide assistance to the most deprived segments of the population. <\/p>\n

The SDC Moldova country office has reported that starting from March 1, 2006 the Agency supports a project concerning the elaboration and establishment of an independent, viable and functional system of Moldovan Occupational Standards, Evaluation and Certification (MOSAC) in the field of Technical Vocational Education and Training. This project will be implemented by a consortium of two consultant agencies – INBAS from Germany and Swisscontact from Switzerland, specialized in this field. The overall budget for the first two years phase of the project constitutes 1.6 million Swiss francs (16 million lei). The project will be implemented in close cooperation with the Swedish International Development Agency (SIDA), which has recently approved two other components of the same overall reform programme. <\/p>\n

SDC is co-financing a program of UNICEF Moldova "Ensuring Survival, Care and Development of Young Children in Moldova through IMCI and Perinatal Care Initiatives". The project goal comes to support the realization of Moldova’s Economic Growth and Poverty Reduction Strategy and Millennium Development Goals of reducing child mortality and improving maternal health. These goals are supposed to be achieved through the implementation, with the support of international agencies and donor organizations, of the National Perinatal Care Programme (2003-2007), National IMCI (Integrated Management of Childhood Illnesses) Strategy and National Mother and Child Health Programme (2005-2009). The contribution of SDC for this project for the year 2006 is CHF 406’000 (4.06 million lei). <\/p>\n

In domain of Mental Health SDC is continuing its support by development and implementation of occupational therapy programmes as medico-social rehabilitation measures for people with mental disorders. The target group of this intervention are Psycho-Neurological Institutions for adults and Psychiatric Hospitals (8 institutions throughout the country, incl. Transnistria). For the preparation of a larger project a special action was launched (CHF 23 000 – 230,000 lei), which is executed by the NGO "Day center Armonie". <\/p>\n

On March 10, 2006, SDC signed an agreement with the Department of Penitentiary Institution of the Republic of Moldova. This document launches a 3 years project (2006-2008) to rehabilitate the dormitory block of the Rusca prison for women (Hincesti Raion) in order to improve the living conditions of the inmates. The full refurbishment of the building as well as the renewal of the main wastewater pipe will be completed in several phases.
