Last year Moldova registered a record volume of direct foreign investments that were assessed at $260 million. Deputy Minister of Economy and Commerce Igor Dodon said that this figure is the highest since Moldova proclaimed its independence in 1991. <\/p>\n

At the Moldovan-Romanian economic forum on Wednesday, Dodon said that most of the investments came from the EU member countries, followed by the CIS states. Russia heads the top of the ten countries that made direct foreign investments in Moldova with 20%. It is followed by Spain with 11.3% and by the US, the Netherlands, Germany, France and Romania with 4% each. <\/p>\n

Referring to the investment benefits ensured by Moldova’s legal framework, Igor Dodon said that the businesspeople investing over $250,000 will pay only 50% of the income tax during a period of five years. The investments exceeding $2 million will be tax-exempt for a three-year period. <\/p>\n
