Chisinau has invited Romanian companies to invest in Moldova, at a Moldovan-Romanian business forum in Chisinau, attended by about 250 officials and businessmen from the two states. <\/p>\n

"A small market like Moldova is interesting because it has a favourable investment climate and possibilities of duty-free exports to a market of 320 million residents," Deputy Minister of Economy and Trade Iogor Dodon said. He noted that Chisinau has signed free trade agreements with all CIS countries and members of the Stability Pact for South East Europe. <\/p>\n

"The free trade agreement with Romania will be suspended on January 1, 2007, but we hope to obtain an asymmetrical trade regime with the European Union then. Thus, the present facilities will grow, taking into account the obtaining of trade preferences on a much larger market such as the E.U.," Dodon noted. <\/p>\n

He argued in favour of investments by indicating the gradual reduction of income tax, which is expected to drop down to 15 percent in 2007 both for individuals and businesses. Dodon added that the Moldovan economy registered the fastest growth pace among countries in the region in 2005, respectively by 7.1 percent, while foreign investments reached the highest level after 1990, respectively 260 million dollars. <\/p>\n

"Why to choose Moldova for investments? Because the investment climate will be improved in continuation and new export markets will open in parallel," the deputy minister added. <\/p>\n

The Romanian ambassador in Chisinau, Filip Teodorescu, told the forum that Romania wishes Moldova to obtain trade preferences with the E.U, as soon as possible, while the visa regime that the neighbouring country will introduce on January 1, 2007 will be as facilitated as possible. <\/p>\n

Prince Radu de Hohenzollern-Veringen, who facilitated the organisation of this forum, said that the manifestation is part of the main Moldovan-Romanian economic events after the 1990s. The prince wished businessmen from the two states prosperity. <\/p>\n

The Moldovan-Romanian business forum was organised in the context of the 3-day visit of Prince Radu to Chisinau, who is accompanied by representatives of about 80 Romanian companies. <\/p>\n

Romania ranks the 3rd place among main commercial partners of Moldova, with a volume of trade exchanges worth 370 million dollars in 2005.
