"The equipment of the plant is very used so that we have to undertake some check-ups. The functioning of the station will be temporarily stopped. It is not our blame that the Odessa region could remain without electricity. This is the problem of the Ukrainian authorities," Siskov said. <\/p>\n

The Cuciurgan station is the only electricity provider in the Odessa region. The Cuciurgan station administration expressed concern with the possible suspension of activity of the power plant in early March. "The station could face a precarious situation. Only one out of 12 blocks functions at present and the station ensures the needs of the region only after Chisinau has given up the purchase of electricity from Transnistria," representatives of the company warned. <\/p>\n

The Cuciurgan plant stopped the energy supplies to Union Fenosa, company which provides electricity to 70 percent of Moldovan consumers, on November 9, 2005. It suspended the supplies because Chisinau did not accept the rise of the electricity price from 3.05 up to 4.08 cents\/kWh. Moldova rejected these conditions and decided to buy current from Ukraine in exchange for 2.5 cents per kilowatt\/h. <\/p>\n

The Moldovan authorities say that the station stopped working from political reasons. This is a pressure on Ukraine, which introduced a new customs regime for the Transnistrian commodity flow on March 3, according to Chisinau. Kiev allows the exports from Transnistria on basis of the Moldovan customs stamp only. <\/p>\n
