"The increasing consumption on Russian market is mostly due to Bulgarians, while domestic wine makers register insignificant rises," Gheorghe Diaconu, representative of Vinny Mir Holding in Moldova, estimated to BASA. <\/p>\n

The slow pace of extension on the Russian market "is related to political reasons." The expert noted that there is an unfair competition on the Russian market at present because consumers are deprived of possibility to choose the favourite wine because of some political ambitions. <\/p>\n

Officials of the MoldovaVin Agency do not deny the forecasts of the Russian importer, saying that "the loss of an insignificant share of the market does not reduce the exports in general." They consider that the reduction could be a result of entry on new markets, such as member states of the European Union. <\/p>\n

Russia is the main importer of Moldovan wines. In 2005, the wine exports were valued at 313 million dollars, of which more than 85 percent went to the Russian Federation.
