Chairman of the parliamentary Standing Committee for Legal Issues, Appointments and Immunity Vladimir Turcan regards as very timely the Government’s initiative to invest bailiffs with an authority to demand from banks information about their clients’ accounts. The bill on this has already been approved by parliament in the first reading, and will soon be adopted finally as a law. <\/p>\n

Turcan stated to Infotag bailiffs are eligible to use appropriate leverage to receive necessary information, including from banks. This implies, in particular, the accounts of debtors who, on the basis of a court decision, must settle their debts owed to the State, or legal entities, or individuals. Such practice is well in harmony with international standards. Besides this, the Moldovan banking regulations have a provision according to which banks must provide information demanded by certain sensitive state structures. <\/p>\n

Vladimir Turcan stressed: this initiative does not imply that banks must disclose the secrecy of bank accounts. Bailiffs are simply supposed to check the accounts of debtors mentioned in court judgments, for it is necessary to know whether or not the debtors has bank accounts, and how big they are. <\/p>\n
