Compensations to socially vulnerable population groups will be revised following the National Energy Regulatory Agency (ANRE) decision on stepping up gas tariffs by 37.2%, Minister of Economy and Trade Valeriu Lazar stated to journalists after the Government meeting Wednesday night. <\/p>\n

He said specialists are already recalculating the compensations, and will publish new figures upon work completion. <\/p>\n

The minister also said heating-electric power plants (CETs) have already demanded to push up central heating tariffs for consumers, because the CETs will now be paying for their main fuel, natural gas, 1160 lei per a thousand cubic meters, not 846 as previously. <\/p>\n

Lazar presumes that electricity tariffs do not need to be increased at least until the end of year, because approximately 70 percent of all power Moldova consumes now comes from Ukraine. <\/p>\n

He pointed out that, on the whole, the consequences of the dearer gas tariffs will be particularly painful for such energy-dependent enterprises as glass factories, Rezina Cement Mills, and the like. <\/p>\n

"The raising of gas tariffs will certainly tell, in this or other way, on all sectors of the national economy. I have no doubt that some dishonest economic operators will try to grasp their luck by pushing up their release prices unfoundedly high. Therefore, it is our duty to exercise a strict control over the price evolution.
