\"\"At the Tuesday’s meeting, the National Agency for Energy Regulation (ANRE) approved the new natural gas tariffs for consumers, tariffs that will be in force during the first quarter 2006. The recalculation of tariff was conditioned by the rise in the price of gas supplied by the Russian company Gazprom – from $80 per thousand cubic meters of natural gas last year to $110 – in the first quarter this year. <\/p>\n

Under ANRE’s decision, the tariffs for domestic consumers that will use up to 30 cubic meters of gas per month were increased from 1 080 to 1 460 lei per thousand cubic meters; for the population that consume more than 30 cubic meters of gas and for the economic agents the tariffs were raised from 1 360 to 1 870 lei; the prices for thermoelectrical power plants were increased from 846 to 1 160 lei. <\/p>\n

The tariffs were raised equally for all the categories of consumers, on average by 37.2%. The average tariff will be of 1 553 lei per thousand cubic meters. <\/p>\n

Ghenady Abashkin, chairman of the managing board of “MoldovaGaz” JSC, told at the meeting that the decision taken by ANRE is not fully acceptable as the Agency did not take into account all the expenses but only the rise in gas prices. According to some data, in the period when the consumers paid for the consumed gas at the previous tariff, the losses sustained by MoldovaGaz will total over 120 million lei. <\/p>\n

The heads of thermoelectrical plants attending the meeting mentioned that the tariffs for the thermal energy supplied to consumers must be also revised. ANRE director, Anatolie Burlacov, told them to prepare the necessary documents and calculations and the Agency will examine them as soon as possible. <\/p>\n
