Tariffs for natural gas for final consumers will be increased as of February 1, 2006. The National Agency for Energy Regulation will present its calculations regarding the new tariffs within several days. <\/p>\n

Minister of Industry and Infrastructure Vladimir Antosii told the reporters that the rise is inevitable given the current price of the Russian gas bought by MoldovaGaz. <\/p>\n

Vladimir Antosii said that he does not know what the size of the new tariff is but specified it will be directly proportional to the price of the imported natural gas. <\/p>\n

Ghennady Abashkin, president of the administrative board of “MoldovaGaz” JSC, said the tariffs should be increased on average by 30-40% for all the categories of consumers. In addition, Abashkin sought their introduction as of January 1 because the losses sustained by the enterprise as a result of the increase in the purchase price of gas exceeded 120 million lei ($9.3 million). <\/p>\n

Minister of Economy and Commerce Valeriu Lazar has previously stated that the rise in the price of gas will not affect seriously Moldova’s economy, including the domestic consumers, because the Government has drawn up an action plan for reducing the negative impact of this rise, as well as a number of measures to support the socially-vulnerable sections of the population. \/\/ Reporter.MD<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
