Ghenadi Abashkin, president of the administrative board of ”MoldovaGaz” JSC, told the journalists that the enterprise requested that the national energy regulator raise the tariffs, given that the price of the imported natural gas went up by over 45%. <\/p>\n

Abashkin specified that in 2005 the average purchase price of the natural gas was $76 but starting January 1 this year Moldova buys gas from Gazprom for $110 per thousand cubic meters. Besides, the expenditure of the enterprise increased considerably in the last years following the rise in the price of energy sources and fuel, as well as the extension by 30% of the gas pipelines that are under MoldovaGaz administration. At the same time, salaries in the field of gas rose four times in the last years, by 45% overall. <\/p>\n

Ghenadi Abashkin stressed that the new tariffs for gas are in line with the purchase price and the rate of inflation registered in 2005 and that projected for the next years. He voiced hope the internal tariffs for gas will be reexamined soon and will be rebalanced. <\/p>\n

Abaskin considers that the new tariffs for gas should have been introduced starting January 1 when the price of gas went up. MoldovaGaz sustains losses as it sells gas at prices lower than the cost price.
