The 2005 average nominal salary in Moldova went up by 20 per cent against 2004, amounting, thus, to 1,320 lei (105 dollars). At the same time, the real salary increased by seven per cent, data put out by the National Statistics Bureau (BNS) show. <\/p>\n

If compared with 2001, the average nominal salary soared from 544 to 1,320 lei, that is, 2.4-fold. . The real average salary grew 1.6-fold during this period. <\/p>\n

According to BNS data, the average salary in the budgetary institutions amounted from 828 lei in 2004 to 993 lei in 2005. On the same period, the average salary in the economy’s real sector was 1,487 lei. <\/p>\n

Thus, the best paid in 2005 were the financial sector’s employees, whose remuneration exceeded 2.6-fold the level of the average salary on the national economy, while the smallest salary was in agriculture, where one employee’s payment covered 56 per cent of the average salary. Although the average salary of the public administration sector employees exceeded by three per cent the average level on the economy, the salary level problem in this sector remains acute. <\/p>\n

It is worth mentioning that the average salary on the national economy, in December 2005, reached the level of 1,748 lei (136 dollars), that is 17 per cent more against the same month 2004. <\/p>\n

According to BNS, on 1 January 2006, the enterprises’ and social institutions’ salary arrears amounted to 96 million lei, decreasing by 12 million lei against 1 December 2005, and by 39 million lei against 1 January 2004.
