The Austrian group Raiffeisen International opened a representation in Chisinau on Tuesday, January 31, via the subsidiary Raiffeisen Bank Romania. <\/p>\n

"Raiffeisen obtained the registration with the State Registration Chamber of Moldova on Tuesday, while the National Bank of Moldova has earlier given green light," representation director Victor Bodiu stated to BASA. <\/p>\n

"By extending to the Moldovan market, the Austrian group Raiffeisen confirms its interest for this region that it regards as a strategic, dynamic enough market, extending this way its presence in Central and Eastern Europe (CEE)," reads a communication delivered to BASA. <\/p>\n

The group considered that this is "an opportune moment to open a representation in Chisinau, giving the positive trend in Moldova and interest of clients." <\/p>\n

This way, we can represent the interests of banks, monitor the development of banking market in Moldova and provide information to our clients, Steven van Groningen, chairman of & CEO Raiffeisen Bank, said. <\/p>\n

The opening of this representation comes to complete the presence of the Austrian group Raiffeisen in this area. Raiffeisen owns strong banks in neighbouring countries. Raiffeisen Bank ranks the third place in Romania regarding assets, Raiffeisen is the second foreign large bank in Russia, and the group has recently acquired the biggest bank, Aval, in Ukraine. <\/p>\n

The Austrian company noted that the economy of Moldova "is strongly developing, confirming the dynamism of the CEE area. The economic growth rate in Moldova was 7.3 percent in 2004, 6.6 percent in 2003 and an advance of over 8 percent is forecasted for 2005. The inflation dropped from 15.7 percent in 2003 down to 12.5 percent in 2004, and it was 10 percent in 2005. <\/p>\n

Raiffeisen International Bank-Holding AG (Raiffeisen International) in Austria is a fully consolidated RZB subsidiary, acting as the holding and steering unit for the RZB Group’s subsidiaries in CEE, above all its banking and leasing units. The group is listed at the Vienna-based Stock Exchange. RZB owns 70 percent of shares, while the rest can be transacted. Raiffeisen International owns the most important banking network in CEE, being present on 16 markets in the region through banking and leasing units.
