The foreign currency reserves of the National Bank of Moldova totaled $600.9 million on 13 January 2006, almost the same level as the previous week. <\/p>\n

According to the National Bank of Moldova, on 6 January 2006 its foreign currency reserves amounted to $601.0 million. This year the foreign currency reserves of the central bank reached a record level exceeding for the first time $600.0 million. On 30 December 2005 the foreign currency reserves totaled $597.4 million. Moldova’s foreign currency reserves in 2005 increased by 27%, from $470.23 million to $597.44 million. <\/p>\n

The growth of the foreign currency reserves was conditioned by the purchase by the central bank of the foreign currency surplus on the internal money market coming from the Moldovans working abroad with the aim of ensuring Moldovan leu’s stability. Besides, in September 2005 the National Bank modified the methodology of calculating the foreign currency reserves by including in them the obligatory foreign currency reserves of the commercial banks deposited in the central bank’s accounts and the funds of the World Bank credit line under the Ministry of Finance of Moldova. \/\/ Reporter.MD<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
