Moldova and Gazprom did not sign any agreement on the rise of the share of the Russian concern in the national distribution society Moldova-Gaz, the way it was earlier reported, BASA has learned from Minister of Economy and Trade Valeriu Lazar. <\/p>\n

"The document signed in Moscow envisages the supply and transit of gas, not the concession or sale of any stocks," the minister noted. <\/p>\n

According to Lazar, the negotiators have discussed "an issue of principle regarding the rise of the package of shares of Gazprom in Moldova-Gaz." "But I repeat that it was a discussion of principle, no concrete figures have been negotiated, no document was signed in this regard," Lazar stressed. <\/p>\n

The minister underlined that Chisinau does not oppose Gazprom to take over the package of about 14 percent of shares in Moldova-Gaz from Transnistria. "Tiraspol gave up this package anyway. The opinion of the Transnistrian shareholder is not very important when the majority shareholder Gazprom votes with its 50 percent plus one share at the sitting of Moldova-Gaz shareholders. So, the concession of the 14 percent does not change the situation," he said. <\/p>\n

The minister of economy and trade insisted "on a difference between negotiations on natural gas price and relations between Moldova-Gaz shareholders." <\/p>\n

The Russian newspaper Kommersant said Wednesday that Gazprom would like to increase its share in Moldova-Gaz up to 75 percent, but Chisinau is ready to cede only 7 percent of its 34 percent. In turn, the minister of economy denied these reports, recalling that no concrete figures have been discussed. <\/p>\n

The Russian publication noted that Gazprom has established the 110-dollar price per 1,000 cubic metres, but it could increase the tariff up to 160 dollars after April 1, 2006, if Moldova does not cede the shares in Moldova-Gaz. <\/p>\n

Earlier, the presidential adviser for economic affairs, Oleg Reidman, has stated to the radio channel Yekho Moscvi that "the Moldovan government agrees that Gazprom increase its share in Moldova-Gaz, but Chisinau is interested to keep at least a blockage package of 26 percent." <\/p>\n
