The Moldovan Government believes it is not correct that the Ialoveni raion’s social and cultural institutions and objects are financed only by a half with the local budget means, while the rest comes from the State Budget. <\/p>\n

Wednesday, the Cabinet held its ordinary working meeting not in the capital as usual but in Ialoveni town (near Chisinau), where Prime Minister Vasily Tarlev remarked the raion can well be self-financed. He provided some basic economic figures to substantiate such belief. <\/p>\n

In 2005, the industrial output in the raion grew up 18% to exceed 356 million lei. The production of fortified wines increased by 24%, of brandies by 23%, sparkling wines – 2.9-fold against 2004. Ialoveni taxpayers contributed 85 million lei to the State Budget – up 6 million lei against 2004. Tax payments to the raion budget increased by 2.5 million lei. <\/p>\n

At the same time, the number of inefficient enterprises, particularly in the farm sector, is fairly big in the Ialoveni raion. Last year, crop yields were lower than in 2004. The technical condition of raion roads, education and culture facilities is unsatisfactory. <\/p>\n

Premier Tarlev believes support from the State Budget should be intended not for backing local institutions but for implementation of major projects. The Resolution adopted by the Cabinet in Ialoveni stipulates the financing of several essential undertakings – the construction of the Ghura Ghalbena-Razeni-Carbuna-Alecsandrovca gas pipeline, of Ialoveni sewage treatment plant, a number of local-scale water-supply systems, and other. <\/p>\n

The Ialoveni raion has a territory of 784.5 square kilometers, of which two-thirds are farmlands. There are 34 populated areas in the raion, and 16 major wineries.
