Representatives of the government, presidential administration and the leadership of Moldova-Gaz stock company participated in the meeting, the presidency’s press service has said. <\/p>\n

The head of state heard a detailed report of Prime Minister Vasile Tarlev on the emerged situation. Moldova has not signed with Gazprom a contract on the new prices for the delivery of the Russian natural gas. Moldova is, in fact, disconnected from the supply with Russian gas the second day in a row, the report says. <\/p>\n

Vladimir Voronin regretfully stressed the lack of Gazprom’s any economic and transparent reasoning over the price for gaz, as well as the fact that the Russian government’s representatives evade a direct dialogue with the Moldovan authorities on this issue. <\/p>\n

"Moldova has presented its position to Gazprom, this position is seriously enough reasoned, through all the necessary economic calculations. Nevertheless, we have heard no counterparguments of Gazprom’s officials, except for sighing and shoving the finger up. We are able to make the payments to Gazprom at market tariffs, but these tariffs should be reasoned and not spinned out of thin air," the president said. <\/p>\n

Vladimir Voronin said that the price of 160 dollars for 1,000 cubic metres of gas is not a market price for Moldova, where the Moldova-Gaz joint venture is working, and where special preferences for joint business in the gas field are created. <\/p>\n

The head of state emphasized that the government should continue the negotiations with the Russian side. At the same time, the president said the Russian side’s attitude shows an exclusively extraeconomic reasoning of the steps taken by Gazprom. "Unfortunately, we never found economics in Gazprom’s decisions", Voronin said. <\/p>\n

The authorities will do everything which is necessary so as the country’s population and economy overcome the emerged situation with minimum losses, the president also said. <\/p>\n

The participants in the meeting took a decision to set up an operative staff for energy security issues under the Moldovan government, led by the industry and infrastructure minister, Vladimir Antosii. <\/p>\n

Starting 1996, Moldova has been buying natural gas from Gazprom at the highest price in the Commonwealth of Independent States – 80 dollars for 1,000 cubic metres. Moldova pays in cash for gas in time and in a 100 per cent volume. <\/p>\n

The Moldova-Gaz Moldovan-Russian joint venture works in Moldova in much more advantageous conditions for the Russian side than the ones existing in Belarus. The biggest part of the Moldovan old debts to Gazprom represent those of the Transnistrian side. <\/p>\n
