The Russian concern has announced that it reached a consensus with Chisinau regarding the need to establish a "medium European" tariff for natural gas supplied to Moldova, but fell short of revealing the price and date when the new tariff will take effect. On the other hand, Moldovan authorities say that negotiations on this issue continue. <\/p>\n

"First Deputy Premier Zinaida Greceanii met with Gazprom manager Alexander Miller in Moscow on Wednesday and the sides shared the same opinion regarding the need to introduce a medium European tariff," reads a communication published on the website of th e Russian gas concern. <\/p>\n

It said that the sides particularly examined the problem of debts for the natural gas supplied to Moldova, as well as issues related to the December 22 sitting of the management board of Moldova-Gaz (in which Gazprom owns 50 percent plus one shares). <\/p>\n

On the other hand, Premier Vasile Tarlev said meanwhile that Moscow and Chisinau did not reach an agreement and the sides continue the negotiations. "Chisinau is ready to pay 80 dollars per 1,000 cubic metres or even less," Tarlev noted. Anticipating the final of negotiations, the government has empowered Zinaida Grceanii to sign a possible agreement with Gazprom. <\/p>\n

Representatives of the team of negotiators that has left for Moscow said that no agreement with Gazprom was reached so far. "Negotiations continue, they will last on Thursday and maybe on Friday, if needed," a member of the team of negotiators told BASA by telephone on Wednesday evening. <\/p>\n

Russian officials reconfirmed on Wednesday that Moscow intends to review the tariffs for a number of states in the CIS and the Baltic countries, including Moldova. Earlier, Russia had posted intention to double the tariff for Moldova, from 80 dollars up to 150-160 dollars. <\/p>\n

According to data of Gazprom, the concern has supplied 2.7 billion cubic metres of natural gas to Moldova in 2005 and 2.16 billion in 11 months of this year. The supplies come through the Moldova-Gaz society. Gazprom said that the level of payments is 10 0 percent, except for Transnistria, while consumers from the left bank of the Dniester river paid for 52 percent pf consumption. <\/p>\n
