Instead of the earlier discussed price of 160 dollars per 1,000 cubic meters of gas, Russia’s gas giant proposed Kiev to pay for the Russian natural gas at world prices, 220-230 dollars, Newsru quoted the Interfax agency as saying. <\/p>\n

“Ukraine missed the opportunity and the price of 160 dollars is out of the question now,” Alexander Medvedev, deputy head of Gazprom’s management board, today said. <\/p>\n

The talks with Ukraine last the ninth month already and “the Ukrainian side did the utmost to complicate and postpone the negotiation process making of the European consumers hostages of Ukraine’s dominant position whilst transporting natural gas to Europe,” Medvedev’s statement runs. <\/p>\n

“Kiev tried to obtain preferential terms as reagrds the the supply of gas telling Gazprom it will constantly provide the European consumers with gas,” the statement says.
