This will be the second Moldovan delegation which will try to reach an agreement with Russia. A group of Moldovan ex perts was in Moscow two weeks ago but it failed to negotiate acceptable conditions for supply of Russian gas to Moldova. <\/p>\n<p>Governmental sources told BASA that Moldova will negotiate with the Russian concern Gazprom the possibility to increase the gas tariff gradually. Moldova and Ukraine solicit a rise of the price by about 30 percent for this year but in two parts. Also, th e two neighbouring states seek the gradual liberalisation of the price up to the European medium level within four years. <\/p>\n<p>Also, Chisinau would accept a larger volume of natural gas for transit in exchange for a reasonable price. Russia wants to double the gas price for Moldova. <\/p>\n<p>Earlier, Economics Minister Valeriu Lazar had said that as Gazprom owns more than 50 percent of shares in Moldova-Gaz, the relations between the two companies &quot;are transactions with a conflict of interests,&quot; but there are no premises for a higher tariff. <\/p>\n<p>At present, Moldova pays the highest price for gas in the CIS &ndash; 80 dollars per 1,000 cubic metres, while Belarus pays 35 dollars per 1,000 cubic metres and Georgia pays 65 dollars per 1,000 cubic metres. Gazprom deputy manager Alexander Ryazanov told the forum Russian Gas &#8211; 2005 on November 29 that the Russian concern intends to increase the gas price for Moldova up to 150-160 dollars per 1,000 cubic metres, but the higher tariffs will not be effective for the eastern districts of the country controlled by the Transnistrian separatist administration. <\/p>\n<p>The Russian State Duma demanded the executive on July 8 through a unanimously voted document to increase the price of natural gas supplied to Moldova, Ukraine, Georgia, Estonia and Lithuania. <\/p>\n<p>The initiative came from the Liberal Democratic Party faction in the Russian State Duma, which demanded that the states concerned contract Russian gas in exchange for a medium price paid by Central and Western Europe.
