The number of fixed-line telephony subscribers in the nine months of this year has increased by 31 500 and totaled 886 000, fact that determined the rise in the penetration rate of this kind of telephony per one hundred inhabitants up to 26.1 percent. <\/p>\n

According to a study carried out by the National Regulatory Agency in Telecommunications and Informatics (ANRTI), the mobile telephony subscribers outnumbered the fixed telephony subscribers for the first time. Thus, mobile telephony subscribers total 1 003 100, by 117 100 subscribers more than fixed-line telephony subscribers. The penetration rate constitutes 29.6 percent. <\/p>\n

Investments in the fixed telephony sector in the period of 1 January – 1 October 2005 amounted to 474.0 million lei, by 147.4 million lei more than those made in the mobile telephony sector. The total income coming from fixed-telephony services made up 1 billion 294 million lei, by 334.6 million lei more than the sales in the mobile telephony sector. <\/p>\n

The monthly average revenue per subscriber (ARPU) of SA “Moldtelecom”, which holds a market share of 99.4 percent, reached about 167 lei in the first nine months, by 39 lei more than the average revenue obtained by the two mobile telephony operators “Voxtel” and “Moldcell” in the similar period. <\/p>\n

Some 99.4 percent of the total fixed telephony subscribers are of SA “Moldtelecom”, 0.5 percent of State Enterprise “Moldova’s Railway” and 0.1 percent of the alternative operators. <\/p>\n

Fixed-line telephony penetration rate per one hundred inhabitants on 1 January 2005 was 25.5 percent, while that of mobile telephony – 23.2 percent.
