The United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) will grant the Moldova Government a non-reimbursable credit of 400,000 dollars for preventive measures against bird flu. <\/p>\n

The agreement was signed Monday by Minister of Agriculture and Food Industry Anatol Gorodenco and FAO representative to Moldova Maria Kadlecikova. <\/p>\n

The financial resources are allocated for a period of 18 months as part of the FAO emergency program for the control and prevention of avian influenza. The program includes 10 states from Eastern Europe and Caucasus. It aims at monitoring the migration of wild birds, at establishing contacts between the specialized laboratories and at working out a national plan of action in the field. <\/p>\n

Kadlecikova told that FAO is ready to provide “additional support if need be”. <\/p>\n

Gorodenco said in turn that an exercise of stimulating a bird flu pandemic will be organized in Moldova from November 28 to December 1.
