The low American investments in the Moldovan economy are explained through high corruption rate, as well as imperfect legislation, according to Thomas Adams, coordinator of the U.S. assistance for Europe and Eurasia of the Department of State, who is on a visit to Chisinau. <\/p>\n

"Unfortunately, American businessmen describe the Moldovan economy as unstable. One part of success means guarantee for American businessmen, but they fear that different sudden interventions could appear in Moldova," Adams told a news conference on Friday evening. <\/p>\n

Adams expressed conviction that implementation of the so-called guillotine law would increase the American investments in Moldovan economy. According to Adams, the Ukrainian agriculture is relatively attractive for Americans. "Therefore, I think that the Moldovan agriculture sector could become a target for American businessmen in perspective." <\/p>\n

In turn, Economics and Trade Minister Valeriu Lazar said that the American investments have a qualitative level, though the U.S. is not part of the states with largest investments in Moldovan economy. "They bring modern technologies, promoting the know-how in Moldova," Lazar noted. <\/p>\n

The minister gave as example the U.S. Investment Fund Western NIS Enterprise Fund, which purchased the entire package of shares in the Natur Bravo cannery in exchange for 10 million dollars last October. <\/p>\n
