The Chisinau authorities negotiate with Ukraine and Romania the importation of electricity in case of crisis, since Moldova could face such a situation after the Cuciurgan power plant has stopped the energy supplies. <\/p>\n

"A preventive agreement was already signed with a Romanian company," knowledgeable sources in the Ministry of Industry and Infrastructure told BASA but fell short of revealing the name of company. The source said that the Romanian firm would supply 110 KW through three lines to Moldova in case of crisis. The contract does not stipulate any volumes and prices for imported electricity, and these issues are being negotiated. <\/p>\n

Moldovan Minister of Industry and Infrastructure Vladimir Antosii holds similar negotiations in Kiev on November 10-12. He will sign new contracts with Ukrenergo and Ukrinterenergo on importation of electricity from Ukraine. <\/p>\n

Minister Antosii will sign a memorandum on construction of a 300-KW tension power line on the Novodnestrovsk-Balti route with his Ukrainian counterpart. "The construction of this 120-kilometre long line will cost 25-26 million euros, and Chisinau hopes t o obtain this money from foreign financial organisations," the Industry representatives noted. <\/p>\n

The Cuciurgan power plant based in the Transnistrian territory uncontrolled by Chisinau, stopped on October 9 the supply of electricity to distribution grids on the right bank of the Dniester river. The station owned by the Russian group RAO EAS Rossii ensures more than half of Moldova’s energy needs. <\/p>\n

Energy officials stated to BASA that "the consumers are ensured with electricity without any turnoffs, under conditions of a deficit of energy in networks." They noted that the local CETs increased the current production in the measure of possibilities while energy purchased from Ukraine have grown. <\/p>\n

However, the officials warned that these measures would be inefficient if the weather suddenly becomes colder and the current consumption grows. <\/p>\n

The Cuciurgan power plant stopped the current supply because the distribution grids of the Union Fenosa Group refuse to increase the tariff from 3.05 up to 4.08 cents per kWh.
