The decision was taken following a failure to reach a compromise with the new owner of the Cuciurgan power plant – the Russian oil giant “RAO EAS” – at the last meeting. The Cuciurgan power plant arrested delivering electric power to the power distribution networks from the right bank of the Dniester on Wednesday evening. <\/p>\n

According to sources in the Government, the Moldovan official will bargain in Kiev for a better price than that offered by Romania. <\/p>\n

The negotiations of the Moldovan authorities with the new owner lasted for more than ten days, the administration of the Cuciurgan power station insisting on the rise in the delivery price from 3.05 cents to 4.08 cents per kW\/hour. <\/p>\n

Officials of the Union Fenosa Group in Moldova told REPORTER.MD that company’s administration is preoccupied with the settlement of the created situation. “We are conducting negotiations at different levels, but the results will be made public at the right moment,” the officials said. <\/p>\n

The cited sources avoided saying something about possible power disconnections yet. <\/p>\n

Many Moldovan settlements remained in darkness when the Cuciurgan power plant ceased the deliveries at the end of last year. The plant supplies Moldova with 54 percent of the total power necessities. <\/p>\n

While at the recent GUAM summit in Chisinau, Ukrainian and Romanians officials said their countries would deliver power to Moldova if need be.
