Industrial production growth this year will total up to 7 percent, according to specialists of the Center for Economic Policies of IDIS “Viitorul”. During 2004 and 2005, industrial growth slowed down and constituted “a deception for the government,” Ghenadie Rusu, representative of the mentioned center, told REPORTER.MD. Industry grew by only 6.1 percent in the first nine months of this year, as against 7.9 percent in the corresponding period 2004. The best industrial production index was registered in 2003 – 18.6 percent. <\/p>\n

Economists say that the main causes of stagnation in this sector are the rise in fuel prices, the continuous increase in raw material prices, the scarcity of capital investments, as well as the lack of a consistent state policy to revitalize this sector. <\/p>\n

The products are not competitive even on the domestic market and the consumer tends to purchase imported goods. The companies have much to learn about the diversification and presentation of their products, Rusu specified. <\/p>\n

Specialists say the investments in technologies must be encouraged and the personnel must be qualified. According to them, the insignificant increase in salaries is a negative factor in the development of this sector. <\/p>\n

The service sector saw the most spectacular growth in the last years. This sector has increased by 9.9 percent in January-August 2005, as opposed to 5.5 percent in the similar period last year. It is estimated that by the end of the current year this sector will grow by 10 percent more than in 2004.
