The monthly disposable income of the population made up 534 lei on average per capita in the second quarter of this year, according to the data on households’ budgets. This is by 14.6 percent more compared with the corresponding period last year. Yet, the data of the National Statistics Bureau say that the incomes of a person have increased by only 0.9 percent in real terms. <\/p>\n

The main source of income was the salary which accounts for about 46 percent of the total incomes. The incomes coming from agricultural activity have decreased by 18.3 percent on April-June 2005. <\/p>\n

The incomes of the urban population are 1.8 times higher than those of the rural population. The disposable income of the urban population went up by over 22 percent, while those of the rural population by 8.7 percent. <\/p>\n

A report of the World Bank (WB) “Moldova – Opportunities for Accelerated Economic Growth” says that the rate of poverty in 2004 almost halved on 1999, when about 70 percent of the population was poor.
