\"\"Ukraine has a high electric power potential and can increase the volume of electric power exports to Moldova taking into account the difficult situation Moldova experiences,” head of the Ukrainian Foreign Information Service Nicolae Malomuj stated at the summit of GUAM Security Council secretaries and heads of Information and Security Services on Thursday in Chisinau. <\/p>\n

Acording to Malomuj, Ukrainian experts are working out a project regarding the establishment of an electric power bridge between Ukraine and Moldova. “I have tackled this issue with Moldovan President Vladimir Voronin and Prime Minister Vasile Tarlev and we have agreed on holding negotiations at the level of groups of experts. In my opinion this is a wonderful project,” Malomuj said. Ukrainian Security Council Secretary Anatoli Kinah confirmed Ukraine’s willingness to increase the power deliveries to Moldova. <\/p>\n

Viorel Barloiu, head of the Romanian Supreme Defense Council, reiterated in turn Romania’s availability to supply electric power to Moldova. “Romania could come with a solution in this respect if need be," Barloiu said. <\/p>\n

The Moldovan Minister of Foreign Affairs Andrei Stratan said that a number of projects in the energy sector are under examination at present. “We think that in the nearest time Moldova will have the possibility not only to import electric power, but also to propose programs of power supply given the fact that we are conducting talks with representatives of European institutions for Moldova to obtain the status of full-right member of the energy memorandum for South East Europe countries,” Stratan specified. <\/p>\n

The contract for the supply of power by the Cuciurgan Power Plant that is located on the left bank of the Dniester expired on October 31 currently. The administration of the power plant warns it will stop the deliveries if Moldova does not accept the 30-percent increase in the tariff for electric power. <\/p>\n
