The CIS summit, slated for February 26 can be put off, INTERLIK News agency reports. This time the Moscow mass media do not associate it with the health of Russia’s President Boris Yeltsin, who has returned to the Kremlin after a serious illness and has resumed his functions. He has also begun participating actively in the run-up for the CIS summit. <\/p>\n

In all probability the summit will be put off in virtue of a very hard political situation in a number of CIS countries, in particular, in Uzbekistan, where a coup d’etat was attempted and in Moldova, which is currently in the state of a government crisis. Besides, there are extra difficulties in the connection with refuse by Azerbasijan to participate in the militaty-political union of the Commomwealth. <\/p>\n

The most hot debates are expected to flare up at the summit on issues related to the reformation of the CIS working bodies and structures, on setting up a joint customs space, on establishing free trade regime, on which Moldova’s President Petr Lucinschi insists since long time, and on problems related to Boris Berezovski’s incumbency as the CIS Executive Secretary. Certain political forces of Russia cannot reconcile with his holding this office. Boris Berezovski himself thinks that this issue is to be solved exclusively by the heads of the CIS states, but not by Russia alone. <\/p>\n
