Agriculture had a great contribution to the growth of the Gross Domestic Product in the first half of this year, the value added produced by this sector rising by 8.7 percent as against 1.5 percent in the similar period last year. An analysis of the independent analytical center Expert-Grup says that phytotechny had a determinant contribution to the growth in agriculture, its production increasing by 6.3 percent. <\/p>\n

Industry yet grew by only 3.3 percent compared with 11 percent in the first half of last year. The slow growth in industry is explained by the sluggish increase in production volume and by the rise in production costs. <\/p>\n

Service sector progressed more slowly (7.6 percent) compared with 2004 (8.5 percent), but it remained the most important sector in the formation of GDP. The sector’s retail and wholesale trade, the hotel services and restaurants expanded the most, by 13.3 percent (as against 3.3 percent in 2004). Constructions reduced their growth from 40% in the first half of 2004 to 10% in the first half of 2005, but they accelerated as from July 2005. Net Taxes on Production and Import had a substantial share in GDP increasing by 21 percent compared with 2004 (-1.4 percent). <\/p>\n

Independent analysts from IDIS “Viitorul”, a thin tank, assert that Government’s intention to introduce VAT on the import of equipment and gear, starting next year, in the conditions in which the industry experienced a decline in 2005 is not appropriate.
