Foreign investors who have shared their experience at the Chisinau forum Moldova Exposed to World Business said that Moldova has great investment opportunities but investors still face some obstacles on way of their business. <\/p>\n

"Several steps have been taken to meet investors. Businessmen are consulted in the decision-making process, the "guillotine law" was approved, but still there are some restrictions," said Joachim Schreiber, chairman of the Foreign Investors Association. He noted that the government should give up idea to introduce VAT accounts and to focus on consolidation of infrastructure, to treat all investors equally. <\/p>\n

In turn, Bert Van Der Velde, director of Business Unit at Metro Cash & Carry Romania and Moldova, estimated that the entry of the group on the Moldovan market "was not easy", but the enterprise has reached a constructive dialogue with the government. "We sometimes fight [with authorities], but we conciliate in order to make the conclusion that we will never conciliate. However, we must finally realize that we follow common objectives and we can accomplish them only together,” Bert Van Der Velde underlined. He noted that Moldova must increase the internal production, to use exportation capacities and to promote them abroad more actively. <\/p>\n

"Moldova has rich human resources. People here speak more languages: Romanian, Russian, English, French or Turkish in some areas. This is an opportunity for businessmen since Moldovans have an unique chance to work both in West and East," said John Maxemciuc, manager-general of SUN Communications. However, the state must not loose the control on education process. Maxemciuc affirmed that telecommunication sector in Moldova is very divided and underdeveloped. <\/p>\n

Anthony O’Sullivan, director of Investment Compact OECD, told the forum that Moldova has registered some positive macroeconomic evolutions, but foreign investments are slowly growing. "There is a big difference between theoretical possibility to register an enterprise and reality faced by investors," said O’Sullivan. <\/p>\n

Economics and Trade Minister Valeriu Lazar said in turn that the government is ready to establish a constructive dialogue with foreign investors. "Moldova has undertaken a number of changes which demonstrated that investments are welcome here. We will continue in future to contribute to a better investment climate," the minister promised. <\/p>\n
