\"\"The sums of money sent by the Moldovans that work abroad continue to increase. Specialists say the total transfers in 2005 will exceed the accumulations in the Gross Domestic Product for next year. <\/p>\n

The National Bank of Moldova has said that the transfers made by individuals through commercial banks from abroad in the first semester of this year totaled 280.42 million dollars, as against about 170.0 million dollars, or by about 58 percent less, in the same period last year. <\/p>\n

The central bank said that the annual sum of remittances from abroad from 1999 till 2004 has increased from 89.62 million dollars to 421.90 million dollars or about five times. <\/p>\n

Experts forecast a sum of about 1 billion dollars that will be transferred by the end of the current year by the Moldovan citizens working abroad. This sum does not include the illegal transfers. <\/p>\n

According to the independent analytical and research center Expert-Grup, a part of the transferred money are invested by the domestic households in education, realty, automobiles, or by the patrons of some micro-enterprises. The largest part of this money is spent on consumption. Experts say the Government should be worried about the intensity of labor force migration abroad. <\/p>\n

According to the National Statistics Bureau, the number of those that were working abroad or looking for a workplace in the second quarter last year added up to 342,000, while in the second quarter 2005 this figure was of over 383,000 migrant workers. "Taking into account the quarterly migration variations in 2004, it is probable that the number of migrant workers in the next quarter of the year will reach 400,000. This is over 27 percent of the economically inactive population," Expert-Grup said. \/\/ Reporter.MD <\/p>\n
