Iurie Malanciuc, of the Moldovan Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry, told that the team of Russian experts, who arrived in Moldova last week, chose for inspection the country’s remotest northern district of Briceni, so that to have a possibility to visit also the other districts on the way there. <\/p>\n

In particular, the experts were looking for seats of a disease called "fire blight" caused by Erwina Amylovora agent, which is a quarantine object in Russia, as well as in Moldova and in Ukraine. Had they found it here, Moldova would be allowed to export only canned fruit and vegetables to the Russian Federation. <\/p>\n

The Moscow experts visited also Moldovan fields and orchards along the Prut River that is in the immediate proximity to Romania. <\/p>\n

"They were interested also in examining over 700 certificates issued to Moldovan economic operators permitting them to export crop-origin products to Russia. After the check, the experts had no more questions," Malanciuc said. <\/p>\n

The head of the veterinary and phytosanitary control service announced the intention to impose a ban on agricultural imports from Moldova a month before the sanctions were brought into force.
