The trade deficit of Moldova will reach a record high at the end of this year: one billion dollars, official statistics predict. <\/p>\n

The executive forecasts a 16 percent rise of Moldovan exports till 1.1 billion dollars, and a 21 percent rise of imports till 2.1 billion dollars. <\/p>\n

At the beginning of this year, the Ministry of Economics and Commerce had said the deficit would amount to some 770 million dollars, but the deficit rapidly grew to 600 million already in the first seven months of the year. <\/p>\n

In 2006 the deficit will be 1.1 billion dollars, with exports growing at a pace of 13 percent and imports at a pace of 12 percent, the executive said in the draft state budget for next year. <\/p>\n

But independent experts and economists from the think tanks Expert-Group and Viitorul say that the trade deficit will be the number one problem in the government macroeconomic agenda in 2005-2006. <\/p>\n
