The Government proposes to reduce the income tax for legal entities by 3 percentual points in 2006, to 15 percent. <\/p>\n

This measure is stipulated in the draft budget law for 2006. It was introduced in a move to encourage economic agents to announce their incomes. Currently, this index makes up 18 percent of the income. <\/p>\n

Minister of Finance Zinaida Grecianii said that the lowest and medium income tax applied now to individuals is planned to be reduced next year from 9 and 14 percent to 8 and, respectively, 13 percent. The highest income tax will be maintained at the current level of 20 percent. <\/p>\n

The annual individual exemptions from income tax will be increased from 3,960 lei this year to 4,500 lei next year. Exemptions for maintained persons will be raised from 600 lei in 2005 to 840 lei in 2006. <\/p>\n

Tax remissions on the payment of VAT for the import and delivery on Moldova’s territory of pesticides and mineral fertilizers, of technical equipment and complementary parts will be cancelled from January 1, 2006. A reduced VAT of 8 percent will be levied on the import of medicines. <\/p>\n

The respective modifications aim at enforcing the principle of fiscal equity for all the economic units and at avoiding tax evasions, the minister of finance told. <\/p>\n

The adjustment of the excise duties on beer and tobacco products to the rate of inflation will be operated in 2006. It is projected to increase the excise duty on the import of cars older than 3 years by 0.01 euros per one cubic meter. <\/p>\n
