Officials of the Ministry of Economy and Commerce presented at a round table meeting on Friday the progresses in implementing the European Charter for Small Enterprises in Moldova achieved during the last 12 months. <\/p>\n

Igor Dodon, Deputy Minister of Economy and Commerce, stated that this is Moldova’s second experience in drawing up the country report on the accomplishment of the European Charter for Small Enterprises. The implementation of the 10 principles had a positive impact on the development of the small business sector. <\/p>\n

According to him, the number of small enterprises has increased in the last 12 months by over 2,200 units, making up 92 percent of the total businesses existing in the country. During 2002-2005, the number of people working in this segment has risen by 46, to about 174,000 at present. This is 31 percent of the total salary earners in Moldova. <\/p>\n

“Despite achievements in the mentioned areas, the small businessmen’s incomes from sales remain modest in comparison with those of the other economic units of the country. They account for 27 percent of the overall turnover,” Dodon told. He noted that the small business sector was yet the only one to report profit growths during the past two years, while the large enterprises are suffering declines. <\/p>\n

In 2004, Moldova complied with the principles of the European Charter of Small Enterprises whose main objective is to make Europe the most competitive economy capable of a sustainable economic growth, with more workplaces and more efficient social cohesion. <\/p>\n

The 10 principles of the European Charter for Small Enterprises are being now implemented in 34 European countries, members or candidates to the European Union, in West Balkans and in Moldova. \/\/ Reporter.MD<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
