\"\"Natural gas consumption in Moldova in the first semester this year has risen by 12.3 percent over the corresponding period last year. It totalled 731.4 million cubic metres. <\/p>\n

According to the national energy regulator ANRE, Floresti and Orhei districts account for the highest rise in natural gas consumption – over 50 percent. The following districts have the lowest share in gas consumption growths: Taraclia (0.2 percent), Ialoveni (3.7 percent), Stefan –Voda and UTA Gagauzia (5.0 percent). The losses in the gas transportation networks have decreased in the mentioned period by 0.8 points, while in the distribution networks by 0.4 points. They made up 1.8 percent and, respectively, 4.3 percent. <\/p>\n

The ANRE specialists explain the rise in gas consumption by the increasing demand on the natural gas market. It is determined by upward trends in national economy’s development and in the implementation of the national program on country’s gasification. <\/p>\n

ANRE says in its study that some 754.4 million cubic metres of natural gas to the value of over 699.7 million lei (55.7 million dollars) have been purchased in the first semester this year. Gas purchases in natural value have increased by 10.6 percent compared with the similar period last year, while in money value they rose by 12.3 percent. This discrepancy is due to the 1.8-percent rise in the average selling price of natural gas – from 72.54 dollars per 1,000 cubic metres in the first half of 2004, to 73.85 dollars per 1,000 cubic metres in the first half this year. <\/p>\n

As many as 43.8 percent of the natural gas was purchased from the Russian company Gazprom, while 66.2 percent from Gazexport, also from the Russian Federation. <\/p>\n

The purchases from Gazprom have reduced in the first half-year by 3.6 percent, while those from Gazexport have increased by 24.8 percent mainly owing to the more competitive price offered by the latter – 69.05 dollars per1,000 cubic metres, as against 80 dollars per1,000 cubic metres – the price charged by Gazprom. <\/p>\n
