\"\"Gasoline prices in Moldova increased by 50% in 2005<\/strong><\/p>\n

According to Infotag news agency, on September 6, gasoline prices in Moldova increased by 16 percent, diesel fuel by 6.3 percent, and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) by 10.4 percent. <\/p>\n

This is the sixth gasoline price hike in Moldova in 2005 that made the gasoline price more expensive than it was on January 1, 2005 by 52.2 percent, diesel – 47.4%, and liquefied petroleum gas – 23 percent.<\/p>\n

Today, price for Ai98 gasoline (equivalent of "Premium" in the US) has become 11.6 lei per liter ($0.92), Ai95 (Plus in US) – 11.4 lei ($0.90), Ai92 (Regular in US) – 11.1 lei ($0.88), Ai76 – 10.7 lei ($0.85), diesel – 10.1 lei ($0.80), and LPG 5.3 lei ($0.42).<\/p>\n

This last increase in Moldova is due to the increase of prices at oil refineries in Romania and Ukraine, Moldova’s main suppliers, to $780 a ton of gasoline or by 24% in September. <\/p>\n

Gas prices in US go down<\/strong><\/p>\n

The increase of gas prices in Eastern Europe is just opposite what is happening in the US these days. The gasoline price at gas stations here started to go down from the highest mark a few days ago. <\/p>\n

Three of the 10 coastal refineries shut by hurricane Katrina are restarting their activities. Now, just 58 percent of the gulf’s offshore oil production remains shut by Katrina from the 95 percent. <\/p>\n

Crude oil fell for the second consecutive trading day Tuesday at New York Mercantile Exchange, dropping $1.61 to close at $65.96. <\/p>\n

Still, in the US, prices are well above $3.00 per gallon ($0.79 per liter). On the East Coast they are higher than on the West Cost. It probably will be another several days until prices will adjust. <\/p>\n

Note: The Moldovan National Statistics Bureau reports that in the Q1 2005 an average monthly salary in Moldova was $98 (see the article here>>><\/font>).
