About 33 percent of Moldovan businesses are subject to a varying degree of price controls, as against 31 percent in 2004, 28 percent in 2003 and 19 percent in 2002. The share increased significantly during the last years. Most often the state limits the commercial margin. Usually the price control is done by the Tax Inspectorate and by different ministries and departments.<\/p>\n

In general, most of the products are sold at free prices, but the state regulates the prices for land and land resources, for transport services (except taxi services and public transport services), for telecommunications and telegraphic services, for postal services provided for the population, for precious metals and alloys, for medicines and medical services, for railway transportation, for water supply and evacuation of used waters, for centralised heating and hot water supply, the tariffs for natural gas, thermal energy and electric power etc.<\/p>\n

The state sets limits on the trade margin for the products that have a significant social impact.<\/p>\n

The survey Business Cost was carried out by the nongovernmental organisation Promo-Terra in May 2005 at the request of the World Bank. It reflects the situation of the last three years. The sample consists of 619 businesses randomly selected.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
