Exports of goods to the CIS countries in the first five months of the current year have increased by 12% (51% of the total exports) compared with the corresponding period last year. Goods valued at 216 million US dollars were exported to these countries in January-May. Deliveries to Georgia rose 4.8 times, Azerbaijan – 1.5 times, Armenia – +44.5%, shows an analysis of the National Statistics Bureau. <\/p>\n

Exports destined for the countries of the European Union amounted to 120.9 million US dollars (28.5% of the total exports), decreasing by 2.5% over January-May 2004 as a result of reduced deliveries to Portugal (-66.2%), Germany (-48.0%), Czech Republic (-47.0%), Austria (-38.2%), etc. <\/p>\n

Goods worth 49.3 million US dollars (11.6% of the total exports) were exported to Central and East European countries, on the increase by 27.5% compared with January-May 2004 mainly due to increased supplies to Serbia and Montenegro (3 times), Romania (+33.7%). <\/p>\n

As regards the import of goods, larger growths (+42.7%), compared with January-May 2004, were registered at the imports from the countries of Central and Eastern Europe as a result of increased supplies coming from Bosnia and Herzegovina (3.5 times), Serbia and Montenegro (1.6 times) and Romania (1.5 times). <\/p>\n

Imports deriving from the CIS countries rose 20.7% in comparison with January-May last year. Larger imports were performed from Azerbaijan (88.8 times), Uzbekistan (3.8 times), Georgia (2.4 times), Kyrgyzstan (+31.4%), Ukraine (+25.2%), Belarus (+22.8%) and Russia (+17.3%). <\/p>\n

Goods imports from the countries of the European Union went up 32.8% on January-May 2004. Considerable growths were registered at the imports from Sweden (3.3 times), Austria (2.2 times), Finland (2 times), Slovenia (1.9 times), Hungary (1.8 times), Lithuania (18 times), Czech Republic (1.7 times), the UK (1.6 times), etc. <\/p>\n

Exports in the first five months of the current year have totaled 424 million US dollars, exceeding by 11% the level of the corresponding period last year. <\/p>\n

In the same period, imports were estimated at 819 million US dollars, on the increase by 31.3% compared with the value of the imports performed in the first five months of 2004. <\/p>\n

In January-May 2005, the country’s trade deficit amounted to 395 million US dollars, 1.6 times larger than that reported in the same period last year. <\/p>\n
