Moldova registered a 8.2 percent economic growth in the 1st trimestre, while authorities, foreign and local experts anticipated a six-percent maximum rise and international organisations forecasted a lower growth pace for this year. <\/p>\n

The growth of GDP is the highest one in the past 15 years for this period, and it exceeded the record of 2004, respectively 6.1 percent. <\/p>\n

The National Bureau for Statistics said on Tuesday that the GDP accounted for 6,381,600,000 lei (about 500 million dollars) in January-March 2005, compared with 5,899,700,000 lei in the similar period of 2004. <\/p>\n

The raw added value amounted to 5.4 percent of the real rise of GDP, while the intermediary consumption was 2.7 percent. Contacted by BASA, experts estimated that the gross fixed capital rose by 27.2 percent in the 1st trimestre, while the final consumption grew by 7.3 percent. "The tendency registered in the second half of 2004 remains unchanged," experts noted. The net product taxes and importation duties rose by 19.72 percent. The production volume rose by 6.1 percent. <\/p>\n

The final consumption of households grew by 8.9 percent, according to data of the National Bureau for Statistics. <\/p>\n

However, the data show that the alarming processes signalled by the independent think tank Expert-Group – slower growth of industrial production and rise of trade deficit – continue. <\/p>\n

This is the sixth year in a row when Moldova posts economic growths, after the GDP dropped by 63 percent in the past years down to 37 percent compared with 1990, the year before economic crisis. The GDP rose by 2.1 percent in 2000, 6.1 percent in 2001, and 7.8 percent in 2002, 6.6 percent in 2003, 7.3 percent in 2004. <\/p>\n
